Mr. Jacob "Jake" Milton Broad, Jr.October 8, 1954 ~ January 11, 2017 (age 62)
Mr. Jacob “Jake” Milton Broad, Jr., age 62, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, after a hard fought battle with Cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and devoted “baby dogs” Dixie & Roxie.
Born October 8, 1954, in Florence, SC he was the loving son of Jacob Milton Broad, Sr. of Manning and Iris Welch Broad of Darlington. He was a 1972 Graduate of Lake City High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baptist College at Charleston in 1980, a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University in 1984 and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Florence-Darlington Technical College in 1995.
Jake proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged October 30, 1984, with the Rank of First Lieutenant. He worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 25 years, most recently with Fresenius Medical Care Darlington Dialysis Center in Darlington. He attended First United Methodist Church in Bennettsville and Twin Harbor Worship Center at Twin Harbor Campground, Mt. Gilead, NC.
Jake was an original member of the Hawg Boyz Motorcycle Club, an avid Gamecock fan and Harley Davidson enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, volleyball, and tennis. Other passions included singing Karaoke, piloting small airplanes, restoring corvettes and driving fast. Jake lived his life to the fullest and brought a smile everywhere he went. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend that will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Bundy Broad of their home; parents listed above, stepsons, U.S. Army SGT. Hunter L. (Christina) Driggers, of Fort Riley, KS, and Jordan D. Driggers of Bennettsville, grandson, Holden L. Driggers of Bennettsville; brother, U.S. NAVY FC2 Christopher S. (Megan) Broad, great-nephew Porter of San Diego, CA; sister, Kathy Broad (Dean) Wilson; niece, Erica (Chad) Hutchinson and great-nephew Mackinley; nephew, Bryan (Brittany) Wilson and great-niece and nephew, Kingsley and Colton, all of Florence. Also, mother-in-laws’ Vivian B. Cooper and Ann L. Bundy of Bennettsville, Hawg Boyz brothers and a host of other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:00 PM, on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Bennettsville officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Johnston. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Room of First United Methodist Church from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service.
