Richard Douglas Smith, 53, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC.
Born September 21, 1963 in Marlboro Co., he was a son of Nancy Cottingham Smith and the late Edward “Sonny” Smith. Richard was a graduate of Clio High School and the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona Beach, Florida, specializing in Harley Davidson motorcycles and small engines. Richard worked with his father on the family farm and also with Mohawk Industries at the Oak River Site from 1983 until November 2016. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Richard loved farming, spending time with family, duck hunting, riding his Harley and taking trips with his Harley buddies “The Parrish Mill Boyz”.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Louanna Smith Beardmore.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy Cottingham Smith of Clio; daughter, Jamie Prevatte and husband J.P. of Clio; sons, Blade Smith of Blenheim and William “Peanut” Smith of Little Rock, SC; brothers, Mike Smith and wife Missy of Bennettsville, Steve Smith of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Jaiden and Jaxsen Prevatte, and Drake Smith; niece, Tylor Smith of Bennettsville; nephews, Cody Smith and wife Courtney of Pinehurst, NC, Adam Smith of Charlotte, NC and Samuel Smith of Bennettsville; great nephews, Hudson and Carter Smith.
A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Hebron Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Emily Davis.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at his mother’s residence, 307 Red Bluff Street, Clio, SC, 29525.
