Virginia (Stackhouse) HinsonDecember 18, 1921 ~ March 2, 2017 (age 95)
Mrs. Virginia S. Hinson, 95, passed away March 2, 2017 peacefully at the Presbyterian Home of Florence, SC, after a long illness.
She was born December 28, 1921 in Hendersonville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Zoe Wepmur Stackhouse and Howard Stackhouse. She spent her childhood years in Tryon, NC. The family later relocated to Dunbar, SC during the Great Depression.
She earned her RN degree from Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, and her master’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Public Health. She enjoyed working for the Health Department in Marlboro and Darlington counties before she began her family. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.
Virginia met and married her beloved husband Marion and they were married 49 years. She and Marion had three children all born on December 31st in different years.
She never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. Once when she was 15 she was fired from her job at the Five & Dime for “truckin” dancing on the job. The fun continued throughout her life. She traveled widely in America and throughout Europe, merrily chatting with all she met, even if they did not speak English. She was known for her big and infectious laugh. She brought life, light, and joy to all she knew and loved. She had a great life but will be sorely missed by those she left behind.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marion; her sister Phyllis McDonald and brother Bo Stackhouse.
She is survived by her sons, Frank Hinson of Bennettsville, SC, and Steve Hinson (Mina) of Columbia, SC; daughter Cindy Willimon (Bud) of Simpsonville, KY; four grandchildren, Brink Hinson (Krista), McNiel Hinson (Brittany), Rebecca Hinson (Derik) and Dakota Willimon; and four great-grandchildren, Adair, Caleb, Colby and Conner Hinson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Spears Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 4, 2017 any time after 5:00 p.m. at 165 Hinson Farm Rd., Bennettsville.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of the Presbyterian Home of Florence for lovingly caring for their mom in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 311 East Main Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512, Presbyterian Home of Florence, SC (Hinson), 2350 West Lucas Street, Florence, SC 29501, or the American Cancer Society, 181 East Evans Street, Florence, SC 29506.
