Arch Forrest Fowler, Sr.

Forrest Fowler, Sr. 97, passed away August 10, 2018 at his residence. Forrest was born August 26, 1920 in Columbia, SC. He is survived by sons Arch F. Fowler, Jr. (Jenny) of Columbia, SC, Julian B. Fowler (Mary Blanche) of Florence, SC, and Stephen J. Fowler (Vicki) of Bennettsville, SC.
 
Forrest leaves behind five grandchildren. They are Stephen Joseph Fowler, II, Rebecca Alsbrook Fowler Hamrick (Cameron), William Christopher Fowler (Maryln), James Exum Fowler, and Eleanor Mason Fowler. There are six Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David D. Fowler of Bennettsville, SC, sisters Lillian L. Fowler of Maggie Valley, NC, and Margaret F. Teague of Columbia, SC.
 
He was predeceased by his wife Betty Lou Brockinton Fowler, a sister Elizabeth F. Potts, and grandson Charles Forrest Fowler.
 
Forrest attended Wofford College and served in the US Army Corp during World War II. After the war, he returned to Bennettsville, SC where he was Owner and President of Marlboro Wholesale Grocery, Inc.
 
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bennettsville and a member of the Billy Raley Sunday school class. He was a Boy Scout Leader and received the Silver Beaver award. His three sons are Eagle Scouts, as well as his three grandsons.
 
The Fowler family would like to thank John Sweatt, Timmy Sweatt, Jason Sweatt, Betty Jean Sweatt, Barbara Jean Simmons, and Mark Clay and Hospice of South Carolina for the wonderful care that Forrest received this past year. 
 
Funeral Services will be conducted by Reverend Doctor Mark Johnston and Reverend John Culp at First United Methodist Church, August 19, 2018 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 until 3:00 pm in the “Gathering Room” at the Church.
 
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 311 East Main Street, Bennettsville, SC and to Hospice of South Carolina, 1039 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC, in honor A. Forrest Fowler, Sr.
