Ava Jacqulina (Walters) DimeryJuly 11, 1952 ~ October 23, 2017 (age 65)
Ava (Susie) Jacqulina Walters Dimery, age 65, passed away Monday afternoon at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
A lifelong resident of McColl, daughter of the late Gordon and Virginia L. Smith, she was a graduate of McColl High School. In 1974 she began her nursing career, working first in a respiratory program and then as a CNA at Scotland Memorial Hospital, Mrs. Dimery was employed in the nursing profession for nearly 30 years first as a licensed practical nurse for 22 years, graduating from Richmond Community College. Working in every department at Scotland Memorial Hospital with the exception of the operating room, she also worked for several home health agencies. She worked for Dr. Jim Currin for over 12 years, then began employment with the Scotland County Health Department as an immunization nurse in 1994. She returned to Richmond Community College in 1998 to become a registered nurse, graduating in 2000. She was employed with Duke St. Joseph in Red Springs, then went to work for Scotia Village Presbyterian Home as charge nurse, retiring in 2004 due to declining health.
She had been a Christian most of her adult life, since March of 1984. She was a member of the McColl Church of God, and was President of the church Seniors Group for many years. She was a former adult Sunday school teacher, was the Wednesday night family training Hour teacher, and was the former Young Adults Converts Class teacher. Involved in many church activities, Mrs. Dimery was the former tour hostess for many seniors for different churches throughout the area. When she was able she helped the church in many fund-raising projects. She served on the town council in McColl for two years. Mrs. Dimery had many friends.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Earl Dimery; her sister, Mrs. Kay Lockey of McColl, her brother, Will Walters and wife Betty of McColl; her aunt Hester Lowery of Clio; her niece, Donna Horton of Laurinburg; two nephews, Johnny Horton of McColl and Jimmy Horton and wife Tamra of Florence, several great nieces and nephews, a special great-great nephew Ian Quick, and her mother-in-law Margaret Faye Locklear of Pembroke
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at the McColl Church of God, Rev. Brian Oxendine, Rev. Jerry Springs, Rev. Jerry Goins and Rev. Dr. Roy Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. The visitation will be at the church from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday
