Mrs. Jean Coates, the widow of the late Oliver “Bill” Woodrow Coates, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after a brief illness. She was 81 years old.
Born on May 17, 1936 in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Still Finley. She was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Bennettsville and was a Clerk for Bair Drug. She enjoyed volunteering at Marlboro Park Hospital, baking, cooking, and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
She is survived by her daughter, Marisa Coates McLain (Steve) of Bennettsville; sisters, Mary Kay Wallace of Bennettsville, Frances Taylor of Bennettsville, and Libby Gulledge of Ruby; grandchildren, Ashley Butler (Blake) of Cheraw; Brooke McLain (Dustin) of Bennettsville; and great-grandchild, Mary Kensley Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; son, Robert Finley Coates; and brother, Billy Finley.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 19, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, officiated by Rev. Kip Gulledge. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and at other times at the home of Mary Kay Wallace, 607 Lakeshore Drive in Bennettsville.
