Surrounded by her loving family, Melissa Carol Parrish went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. She was 46 years old.
Born February 25, 1973 in Cheverly, Maryland, Melissa was a daughter of Linda Adams Kuhnemann and Dannis Glenn “Rusty” Parrish. She was a graduate of Marlboro County High School and a member of Salem Baptist Church. After high school, Melissa joined the United States Navy. During her time of service, she worked as a seaman and also performed the duties of a yeoman. In 1993 she served as part of a rescue team that worked the Big Bayou Canot rail accident, the deadliest train wreck in Amtrak’s history. Melissa was a Licensed Cosmetologist and had almost 20 years of experience, working in both Florida and South Carolina. She loved her career choice because she loved people and loved the opportunity to make someone feel better about themselves. Most recently, she was the owner and operator of 403 Salon in Blenheim. She also provided services at Morrell Nursing Center in Hartsville and Oakhaven Nursing Center in Darlington. She loved the clients and staff members of both facilities and treasured her time there. She loved her family and loved her clients like family. She enjoyed cooking and eating all types of food. She devoured anything her brother-in-law Lee cooked, but said his brisket was the bomb! She really loved her coffee, the double expresso strong stuff, and loved having coffee with friends and family, especially her beloved Aunt Deborah. Melissa was a humble and kind spirit and one of the most appreciative people you would ever meet, always most thankful for the simplest gesture. She cherished her family and her time with them. She took greatest pride in being a sister to her “rock” and best friend, Kelly, mom to Mallory, and grandmother to Kinleigh. She brightened the life of all who knew her. Her memory will be forever treasured.
Melissa leaves behind to cherish her memory: mother, Linda Adams Kuhnemann and step-father, Mike of Blenheim, SC; father, Rusty Parrish and wife Tammy of Bennettsville, SC; daughter, Mallory Amber Faulkenberry of Blenheim, SC; sister, Kelly Parrish Pruitt and husband Lee of McColl, SC; half-sister, Taylor Parrish of Bennettsville, SC; step-brother, Michael Kuhnemann and wife Tracy of Mocksville, NC; step-sister, Jamie Kuhnemann Thompson and husband Michael of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Kinleigh Sheppard; nephews, Sam Pruitt, Jon Michael Kuhnemann and wife Tina, Wyatt Kuhnemann and Mason Kuhnemann; nieces, McKayla Pruitt, Olivia Kuhnemann, and Jackson Thompson; and many other beloved family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Salem Baptist Church in Bennettsville, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Burroughs Funeral Home.
