Mrs. Tate Isgett Allen, 93, passed away, Sunday, October 27, 2019 at her residence after a brief illness.
Mrs. Allen was born in Cheraw, SC on December 26, 1925. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Bertram and Faye Laney Isgett. After graduation from Lander College in 1947, she spent over 40 years as a teacher. Her early years were in the South Carolina public schools beginning in Conway, SC and eventually in Bennettsville. She finished her teaching career at Marlboro Academy in Bennettsville. She was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church for sixty years where she was very involved in the Women’s Missionary Union and always an active member and teacher of her Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Woodland Garden Club, the Read-A-Book book club, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed going to the beach, working in the yard, Clemson Football, and most importantly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory; daughter, Debby Allen Leslie (Tommy) of Bennettsville, SC; son, Burl Edwin Allen, Jr. of New London, NC; grandchildren, Thomas Allen Leslie (Rebekah) of Bennettsville, SC, Marydith Leslie Springs (Matt) of Columbia, SC, and David Edwin Leslie (Caroline) of Summerville, SC; great grandchildren, Jenna and Kate Leslie, Jacob, Drew, and Preston Springs, and Owen, Harper, and Luke Leslie.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents listed above; husband, Burl Edwin Allen; brother, Joseph Samuel Isgett; and sister, Dollie Isgett Younts.
A funeral service will be held at 3 pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Burroughs Funeral Home, with visitation from 2-3 pm just prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later time.
