On April 2, 2022, Franklin Edison Patton of Bennettsville, SC departed this life for his Heavenly home. He is now healed from the disease that took away the things he enjoyed. He has finished his race and received his crown of righteousness.
Frank was one of 10 children. His parents, Arthur and Susie Bartlett Patton, raised their family on the banks of the New River in Grayson County (Galax), Virginia.
Frank was blessed with a beautiful baritone voice. The Patton family was well known for their gift of music and their love for sharing gospel music. The Patton Quartet was formed by his dad in 1947 and they began singing on WBOB, the local radio station. Frank also sang with the “Songmasters”. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Services, Frank began singing and traveling with “The Virginians”, a southern gospel quartet in Roanoke, Virginia. Frank was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He loved watching sports especially University of Virgina and Virgina Tech. Golf was one of his favorite hobbies and he was a master woodworker.
Frank’s first wife, Deanna Vaughan Patton and their daughter, Valerie Southers, both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Wilma, Mary, Odell, Barbara, Nell and a brother, Cliff.
He us survived by his wife, Mary Rose Patton of Bennettsville; son, Dr. Jeffrey F. and Marry Patton of Nashville, TN; step daughters, Janet Alderman, of Christiansburg, VA and Kimberly Hall (Tim), of Dublin, VA; grandchildren, Ashley Foote (Douglas), Evan Patton and fiancée Kelly Bacot, both of Nashville, TN; step grandchildren, Spencer Alderman, Tyler Hall, Madison Alderman, Logan Alderman and Emillie Hall; sisters, Hazel Montgomery, Akron, OH and Millie Bullins (Gene), of Galax, VA; brother, William A. “Junior” Patton (Betty), of Galax, VA.
A funeral service will take place at 1:45 P.M. on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Bower Funeral Home in Pulaski, VA. Burial to follow after funeral service in Virginia Veteran Cemetery in Dublin, VA.
