Mr. Larry Smith, formerly of Columbia, SC, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was 79 years old.
Born in Marlboro County, SC on January 1,1942, Larry was a son of the late Floyd and Clarice May Bullard Smith. He served in the United States Army, received his Associates Degree and later became an Automotive Instructor at Midlands Technical College in Columbia.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Virginia (Jenny) Newton Smith; daughter, Wendy Smith; sons, David Smith and Steven Smith; step-daughter, Regina (Robert) Shelley; step-son, David (Laura) Williams, Jr,; sisters, Shirley (J.T.) Kiker, Valena Sopher, and Sara Wright; brother-in-law, William Donald Newton; sister-in-law, Willie Mae Smith; grandchildren, Ashley (Jacob) Benjamin, Meghan Smith, Kyle Smith, Nickolaus Smith, Steven Smith, Jr., Tim Smith, Brayden Williams; great grandson, Noah Benjamin; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special cat, Baby.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; brothers, Bascom Smith and Floyd Smith, Jr.; sister, Coleen Davidson; brothers-in-law, John Sopher and David Newton, Jr.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Newton Cemetery in Adamsville. In accordance with Covid-19 health safety standards, those in attendance are asked to wear facial coverings and abide by the social distancing guidelines.
