Lewis Quick of Bennettsville, SC passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the age of 89. After several years of health issues, Lewis passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his beloved wife Bay, their daughters Margaret, Betty, and Bubba, and granddaughter Brooke.
Lewis was born in Bennettsville on October 11, 1931, to the late father Donnie Quick and late mother Lucy Barrington Quick. The oldest of 7 siblings, Lewis didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. He worked on Brooks Odom’s farm and worked any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. There was no job Lewis couldn’t accomplish, he would make anything work no matter how it was fixed.
Lewis greatest love was the Lord, and he was devoted to his family and church. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church where he served on the church choir, was a deacon, board member, and lastly active greeter. Lewis hobbies included plundering around in his building, staying up to date on his history, messing in the yard, and his newest hobby was ancestry.com.
If you asked Lewis what his greatest accomplishment would be, he would state marrying his Wife and becoming a Father. Lewis met his wife Margaret Hendrix Quick “Bay” through Polly Quick who she worked with at the time introducing these two to each other. It was love at first sight. That love grew stronger and spiraled into them having one big happy family that includes four daughters, five grandkids, and four great grands. They celebrated 66 years of Marriage and Life together.
Lewis leaves behind his loving wife, Margaret Hendrix Quick “Bay”; three daughters, Margaret Burks (David), Betty Driggers (Jimmy), and Derendia Odom Freeman “Bubba” (Terry); four grandkids, Waylon Smith “WJ”, Chris Burks (Hannah), Spence Boan, Brooke Moody (Gage); four great grands, Tucker Burks, Sophia Allison, Mary Hannah Burks, and River Moody; and his four sisters, Gladys Kinard (Jerry), Linda Barrett, Sylvia Quick, and Suzie Quick.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mickell Boan; grandson, Jamie Driggers; brother, Donald Quick; and sister Annie Ruth Lane.
Lewis’s family would like to thank Crescent Hospice for their compassionate and humble-hearted care.
A graveside service will be held 3pm, Friday January 22, 2021, Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by Preacher Julius Bunch and Speaker RJ Hammonds. A visitation will be held prior at the graveside at 2pm.
