Lydia Cureton Smith, 91, of Bennettsville, passed peacefully at her home on May 26, 2021. She was born January 23, 1930 in Pickens county. She married in August of 1950 and moved to the Pee Dee with her husband. They have resided in Bennettsville since 1955. She loved her church, spending time with family and friends, playing bridge, and watching Clemson football.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ray C. Smith, and her parents, Bernice and James Henry Cureton; and brothers John Cureton and James Cureton.
She is survived by her three children, Ray C. Smith (Wilma), Charles “Ricky” Smith (Patricia), and Elizabeth Odom; grandchildren, Raven Grooms (Hawk), Courtney Odom, Brice Odom; step-grandchild, Austin Peele (Diane); great-grandchildren, Piper and Scarlett Grooms; step-great-grandchildren, Wesley Montgomery (McKenzie) and Katelyn Peele; siblings, Alfred Cureton (Beverly) of Moore, Bob Cureton of Greenwood, and Helen Smith of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 525 Smith Road, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 30, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
