Mrs. Mildred Bowen Perkins, 84, passed away on March 1, 2020 at Heritage Homes in Florence, SC.
Mildred was born September 3, 1935 in McColl, SC to the late Gus David and Ila Bell Bowen. She was a member of Beulah Methodist Church on Firestone and made the move with the church to the new location on Marlboro street in 1970. It was Mrs. Mildred that proposed the name Christ United Methodist Church for this new location. Over the years she has held many positions and actively served the church as choir director, choir member, counsel member, pianist, and youth leader. She made most of the beautiful banners that adorn the sanctuary today.
Mrs. Mildred spent much of her career employed as the Human Resource Manager with Marley and Emerson Industries. She was a kind, smart, creative, multitalented lady. She enjoyed golfing, painting, fishing, going to the beach, and cooking. She loved the Lord and her family, including her church family at Christ United Methodist. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, husband, Johnny Leroy Perkins; brothers, Vernon Bowen, Julian Bowen, David Bowen; and great grandson, Christopher Miles Hamilton.
Mildred leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Steve Johnson (Darlene Brady) of Bennettsville; daughters, Carol Schweitz (John) of Florence, Kathy Sloan (Bill) of Southern Pines, NC, Andrea Perkins (Phillip Gulledge) of Bennettsville; brother, Charles Winburn Bowen of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Christina, Emma, Nathan, Matthew, Andrew, Katarina, Kerri, Jon, Kendall, and Bowen; great grandchildren, Jaxson, Arabella, Asher, Lila, Silas, Elloree, Sophia, and Jameson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Christ United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. just prior to the service at the church.
