Nancy Deloris (Jordan) Mumford

January 25, 1943 ~ December 9, 2020 (age 77)

Bennettsville, SC

Nancy Jordan Mumford passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at McLeod Health Cheraw. She was 77 years old.

Born January 25, 1943 in Camden, SC, Nancy was a daughter of the late Bruce Kirkland and Margaret Arledge Jordan. She was a faithful member of Bennettsville Emmanuel Holiness Church. Nancy was a retired surgical nurse of 36 years with Marlboro Park Hospital, and the recipient of the 2006 Nurse of the Year Award.

Nancy was affectionately known as “MeMa” or “Nanny” by many loved ones and almost anyone who knew her long enough to know that’s what those who loved her called her. Nancy was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, loyal friend and sister in Christ to so many. She spent the majority of her life from a very young age “nursing” her siblings as well as the thousands of patients that she helped care for at Marlboro Park Hospital. Nancy loved cooking for her family, the church, and anyone who might come pull up a chair at her table. She enjoyed recipe books and watching cooking tv shows. She was known for her “collard sandwiches” and was faithful to always prepare them for church fundraisers. Nancy was faithful in prayer and was always a source of strength and love for her family. She knew that the Lord would handle anything that her family faced and trusted His plan, even when it was not what they all wanted. They have loved and lost as a family, but Nancy’s absence will be one that will be felt by each of them. She had a way of making each one of them feel special, whether by stroking their arm, hugging their necks or kissing their cheeks. They know heaven is a little sweeter because she is there. “This is not good-bye but see you soon. We love you.”

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents listed above, husband of 51 years, Thomas Allen “Buck”, Mumford, Jr., son, Thomas Allen “Tommy” Mumford, III, daughter, Melissa Delaine Mumford and sister, Brucie Elaine Brigman.

She is survived by daughters, Angie Mumford of Darlington and Deanna Mumford Griggs of Bennettsville; brother, David Jordan (Martha) of Florence; sisters, Patricia Hendley (Thad) of Cheraw, Barbara Beverly (Wilbert) of Summerville, Markie Barrington of Bennettsville, Charity Speight (Douglas) of Bennettsviile; brother in-law, Tommy Brigman; sisters-in-law, Faye Williams, Margaret Bailey, and Patricia Scott; grandchildren, Erica Griggs of Lexington; great-grandchild, Andrew Galinski; special fur babies, Fanci, Duke, and Carolina; many other beloved family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Bennettsville Emmanuel Holiness Church, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Park.

The family is receiving friends at Mrs. Nancy’s home, 1008 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
